As you likely are already aware, the term “sustainability” has become much more than a buzz word in the food industry. And while it has taken on a much broader definition, it still holds true to its root definition:
1. the ability to be sustained, supported, upheld or confirmed.
2. the quality of not being harmful to the environment or depleting natural resources, and thereby supporting long-term ecological balance.
Today, food retailers are committed to sustainable production and sourcing more so than at any time in recent history. And as you all know, so are our farmers. With our values aligned, it is imperative that we share our progress and our efforts moving forward with our customers – and solicit feedback/input from them – in order to maintain supply chain collaboration and consistent (and realistic) expectations.
The upcoming “Pork Sustainability Summit” has been designed exclusively for our retail and foodservice partners. The save-the-date email below has been sent to the 34 companies on the attached spreadsheet, and the draft agenda is also attached for your review. We are/will be working with Sci/Tech, Communications, Producer Services and the Domestic Marketing teams to ensure a successful event, and judging by the number of confirmed attendees already, we’ll have a great turnout.
