Key Findings:
• Proximity to farm operations may be protective against development of allergy.
• Proximity to farm operations can be associated with increased asthma exacerbation, especially in the United States.
• Although antibiotic resistance genes can be transferred through many mechanisms, including application of manure and wildlife that has access to CAFOs, current literature does not reflect significant persistence of these genes in the environment.
• Prospective studies including measured exposure are needed to prevent misclassification of risk and development of mitigation strategies.
