Get the News You Need with Pork Crisis Alert Texts

When you are busy on the farm, you may not have immediate access to essential information that could impact your operation. For example, disease outbreaks and other emergency situations can spread quickly. You need to know about what’s happening so you can take necessary steps to safeguard your operation.

To keep producers up to date on crisis or emergency situations on the national scope, the National Pork Board has developed an essential new service, Pork Crisis Alert, which is a texting program that will send information to your phone.

In a crisis, Pork Crisis Alert will send an automatic text to your phone with details on how you can access online and call-in resources and information. As a true emergency notification system, Pork Crisis Alerts will only be sent in the event of a true industry crisis or emergency situation. It will never be used for marketing or other communications.

The National Pork Board has responsibility for Checkoff-funded research, promotion and consumer information projects and for communicating with pork producers and the public. Through a legislative national Pork Checkoff, pork producers invest $0.40 for each $100 value of hogs sold. Importers of pork products contribute a like amount, based on a formula. The Pork Checkoff funds national and state programs in advertising, consumer information, retail and foodservice marketing, export market promotion, production improvement, science and technology, swine health, pork safety and sustainability and environmental management. For information on Checkoff-funded programs, pork producers can call the Pork Checkoff Service Center at (800) 456-7675 or check the Internet at pork.org.
