U.S. Pork exports were key for reversal in hog prices and remain a major driver in the market today.

The rally in hog prices during the last three months of 2016 helped turn around what was increasingly looking like an economic disaster for U.S. hog producers. Hog prices in October were approaching 40 cents per pound and there was speculation of possibly even lower prices as weekly slaughter bumped up against processing capacity constraints.
