Pork Industry Scholarship

The Pork Checkoff and industry partners are sponsoring scholarships for college students considering a graduate degree in one of the disciplines listed below and/or a career in the pork industry. Scholarships will be awarded for the 2008-2009 school year.
Pork production is an important part of the U.S. food system and the U.S. economy. Over 800,000 jobs are supported directly and indirectly by this industry. A talented workforce is critical to the industry’s success and competitiveness in today’s increasingly global market.
There are increasing needs for expertise that will lead to research and technological advances in animal science/production, environmental management, animal physiology and well-being, pork safety, pork quality, genetics/genomics, nutrition, reproductive physiology and veterinary medicine. Equally important is the need for research, management and production personnel that will become tomorrow's industry leaders.
Scholarships
The scholarships are intended to recruit and develop talented people for future careers in the pork industry. Scholarships will be awarded to sophomore, junior and senior undergraduate students planning to pursue a career in the pork industry or to attend graduate school and major in the following disciplines with an emphasis on swine:
Agriculture
Agricultural Business
Agriculture Engineering
Agronomy
Animal Breeding/Genetics/Genomics
Animal Physiology
Bioinformatics
Environmental Science
Environmental Physiology/Behavior
Meat Science
Nutrition
Pork Safety / Food Technology
Reproductive Physiology
Veterinary Medicine
