Environmental Stewards Awards Program



Through the Environmental Stewards Awards Program, the Pork Checkoff recognizes pork producers for their dedication to a strong environmental conservation ethic.

A national committee selects the Environmental Stewards Awards winners following an evaluation that includes:

  • General production information

  • Manure management

  • Financial management

  • Farm aesthetics and neighbor relations

  • Wildlife habitat

  • Innovative ideas

  • An essay on the meaning of Environmental Stewardship

 
The 2004 Environmental Steward Award winners are:
  • Old Prairie Pork Roanoke, Ill.
  • Three Generation Pork New Richland, Minn.
  • Luthi Family Farm Gage, Okla.
  • Heimerl Farms Johnstown, Ohio

The 2005 Environmental Steward Award winners are:

  • Maken Bacon Farm— Nevada, Ohio
  • Richardson Farms— Vicksburg, Michigan
  • Saratoga Pork— Tracy, Minnesota
  • Treadway Ranch— McCurtain, Oklahoma

The 2006 Environmental Steward Award winners are:

  • Braun Farms — Le Sueur, Minnesota
  • Harrison Creek Farm — Auxvasse, Missouri
  • Bobcat Farms — Clinton, North Carolina
  • Hord Livestock — Bucyrus, Ohio
