Welcome
New Board Members
Welcome to the newly
appointed members of the National Pork Board and
thanks for the continued service to those who have
been reappointed.
In
mid-May, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns
announced six appointments to the 15-member National
Pork Board. They were chosen from among nine pork
producers nominated by the National Pork Producers
Delegate Body at March’s Pork Forum in Kansas City,
Mo.
The
appointees that will serve three-year terms are
Dianne Bettin, Truman, Minn.; Dennis Michael,
Yankton, S.D.; Jeff Galle, Pittsfield, Ill.; Eugene
Nemechek, Wilson, N.C.; and William Brown, Nevada,
Ohio. Bettin and Michael were already serving on
the Board and were reappointed.
Also, Alan Wilhoite, Lebanon, Ind., was appointed to
a two-year term created by the resignation of
Deborah Johnson, Clinton, N.C. Johnson is the new
North Carolina Pork Council Inc. sTaste executive.
Our
thanks go to these producers and the many others who
have served on the Pork Board through the years.
These producers are charged with overseeing the wide
array of consumer information, research and
education programs funded by the Pork Checkoff.
Turn to page 9 to look back at producer leaders who
have served as president of the Board since its
inception in 1986. Also in this issue, a special
section on pages 8 through 38 takes a look back and
into the future as the Pork Checkoff celebrates its
20th year. By joining together, pork producers have
been able to change the way consumers view pork and
the way they consume it today.
