Pork Racing Excites Retailers
What has
become one of the best retail marketing programs for
the Pork Checkoff began in 2000 with the Pork Racing
Program. Today, America’s Pork Producers are the
primary sponsor of the seven-time ARCA champion
Frank Kimmel race team, the Official Meat of the
ARCA Racing Series and also award the Pork Pole for
the fastest qualifying driver at each race during
the ARCA season.
“This is a great opportunity to leverage Checkoff
dollars,” said Lynn Becker, a producer from
Fairmont, Minn. “There is a growing popularity in
this sport among Hispanics and women, two of the
Checkoff’s target markets.”
Not
all the fun happens at the race track. The Pork
Checkoff ties in retail promotions at tracks where
Busch, Nextel and Craftsman trucks race.
“When we can promote our product in stores and talk
with consumers, it is amazing to see the pounds of
pork that are sold in the store versus the same time
a year ago,” said Becker. “We continue to see pork
sales build each year, which is a good sign of
success.”
