The Great Pork BarbeQlossal has come a long way in the past 20 years. We owe much of the success to the
great contestants that have participated over the years. By listening to your comments and suggestions we
were able to implement changes that allowed us to improve the competition.
I would like to invite all former contestants and former winners
to come back again. We had our first repeat Grand Champion - Craig & Patty Kidwell of Boy's of BBQ
& Patty in 2007. I know they were excited when I called their name. One of the exciting changes for
2008 is a new and improved location! The Iowa State Fairgrounds has built a new 128,000 foot parking lot
south of the Varied Industries Building and we are going to be located there. The Varied Industries
Building holds the majority of the World Pork Expo exhibitors. The outdoor exhibits are directly south of
the Varied Industries Buildings and then there will be the BarbeQlossal contestants. Contestants will
see increased traffic as attendees head to the cattle and swine barn for additional exhibits, seminars and
breed shows.

Back by popular demand is The Big Green Egg™ Scramble. BarbeQlossal
contestants can battle it out for over $37,000 in prize money and awards. We
are excited to be partnering with some great sponsors to help make this event an even bigger success!
We look forward to the most successful Great Pork BarbeQlossal June 6-7 at the Iowa State Fair grounds in
Des Moines. We are looking forward to hosting over 80 teams so if you have questions or concerns,
please let me know!
