The Pork Checkoff believes that by identifying and understanding specific foodborne pathogens such as Salmonella, Listeria, Campylobacter and Yersinia, we can start to understand ways to avoid potential sources of contamination, suppress or eliminate their growth, and ultimately help control their presence in food products. In order to learn more about specific foodborne pathogens, the Pork Checkoff has funded numerous research projects in this area.
