A Checkoff-funded euthanasia research review workshop will be held February 1 in Des Moines, Iowa. This meeting will highlight the results of a large 2009 Checkoff-funded initiative to improve existing methods and identify novel methods for humane euthanasia of swine. Six researchers from the United States and abroad will provide an overview of their research results and participate in a discussion with the audience.

Checkoff’s Director of Animal Welfare Sherrie Niekamp said, “This session is designed to showcase how Checkoff research is working to find innovative solutions to this important industry issue. We hope to have good attendance and discussion during the session.”

Open to all PQA Plus® Advisors, producers and swine veterinarians, the free workshop does require the return of a meeting response form for in-person or webcast attendance. This meeting precedes Checkoff’s annual unified research meeting.
