Web Content Manager, Consumer Communications

The National Pork Board is seeking a Web Content Manager in our Clive, IA office. This position will be responsible for creating engaging dialogue to develop and sustain visitor interaction on our consumer site TheOtherWhiteMeat.com and develop web content to increase pork’s share of meals among targeted consumers. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•  Managing the look and feel of the consumer website to be consistent with The Other White Meat brand
•  Working in tandem with the public relations team to create and deliver effective web communications, such as pork product information, blogs, e-newsletters and on-site promotions to media and consumers
•  Developing creative content that drives target consumers online and provides them with a valued pork experience
•  Collaborating with IT team to effectively capture website analytics, evaluate site and web communications effectiveness and improve interactivity to impact consumer behavior.
•  Partnering closely with the Advertising Director to effectively integrate online ads with all web site brand communications
•  Collaborating with the in-house design team to leverage their expertise in the development of online creative
•  Partnering on programs within the Pork Information Bureau team when online duties allow to assist team in urgent deadlines
•  Editing web content as needed with support from the Pork Information Specialist
•  Executing social marketing programs, with oversight from Consumer Communications Director
•  Managing consumer databases associated with the web site

This position is essential to the future progress of one of America’s most well known brands.  The Web Manager will be responsible for many tactical executions to support the interactivity of the brand, ensuring these tactics are completed on strategy, on time and on budget.  In addition, this position will have some responsibility to prepare presentations and share online strategy with National Pork Board staff, producer committees and other affiliated industry groups. 

Equivalent of a Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications or journalism is required, and two to five years experience developing unique content for web sites. Past experience and high comfort level at being actively involved and versed in the online world of blogs, social marketing and the technologies supporting and creating it is necessary. 

This position requires approximately 10 percent travel nationally.

Chief Executive Officer

TITLE OF POSITION: Chief Executive Officer   
 
SUPERVISORS TITLE:  Board of Directors    DIRECT REPORTS: Executive Staff

Overview: The National Pork Board has responsibility for Checkoff-funded research, promotion and consumer information projects, communication with pork producers, and the general public. Through a legislative national Pork Checkoff, pork producers invest $0.40 for each $100 value of hogs sold. The Pork Checkoff funds national and state programs in advertising, consumer information, retail and foodservice marketing, export market promotion, production improvement, technology, swine health, pork safety and environmental management.

Nature of the Position: The CEO leads the National Pork Board, headquartered in Des Moines, IA, in accordance with the Pork Act and Order. The CEO is the leader of the organization, directing overall expectations, accountability and ensuring quality programs and services. The CEO is responsible for oversight and implementation of NPB’s budget, long range planning, strategic initiatives, and organizational structure. The CEO serves as the face of the organization in the pork community, leading efforts to build awareness of NPB and its mission, and to build and maintain excellent working and funding relationships. To accomplish this, the position demands a high level of visibility and interaction with producers, elected officers, members of the NPB, Pork Act Delegates, NPB committees, state associations and other industry related audiences.

Leadership

• Lead the implementation of the NPB’s annual program of work that is approved by the Board of Directors and the USDA and which includes checkoff funded promotion, research and consumer information initiatives. Responsible for the leadership and performance of NPB employees.

Relationship Management

• Establish and maintain effective relationships with industry organizations, including the USDA and public service organizations to attain of the NPB’s mission and objectives.
• Communicate with producers, elected officers, members of the NPB, Pork Act Delegates, NPB committees, state associations and other industry related audiences.  Keep them fully informed of the strategic initiatives and progress.
• Be the primary spokesperson for NPB. Proactively manage the process of representing and promoting the NPB brand in the media and through public speaking opportunities to be the face of NPB for all major relationships and community events.
• Producers: The CEO interacts with pork producers with moderate frequency. This includes speaking at meetings where pork producers are gathered and to individuals through letters or phone calls.
• Governing Structure: The CEO communicates regularly to the National Pork Board and Pork Act Delegates to keep them informed of the conditions and operations of the National Pork Board and all important factors influencing them.
• Government:  The CEO has frequent interaction with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and, in particular, the Agricultural Marketing Service. 
• Public and other organizations: There is moderate exposure to the public outside of pork producers in the form of media, allied industries, other commodity groups, packers, importers, etc.

Business Strategy and Operations

• Provide leadership for NPB’ daily operations.
• Understand NPB’ current programs and provide vision and overall leadership for the development of new programs.
• Develop and recommend short and long-term strategies for NPB to the Board of Directors, and ensure their effective execution with Board oversight and support.
• Initiate and facilitate an effective short and long-term strategic planning and budgeting process
• Actively participate in creating NPB’s annual operating budget and provide a summary and recommendation of it to the Board of Directors.
• At Board of Directors meetings and as otherwise necessary, provide an update and keep the Board fully informed on any and all factors that may influence the NPB.
• Ensure overall compliance with licensing, and local, state and federal laws and regulations in regard to operations, employment, funding, contracts and fiscal reporting obligations.

Human Capital:

• Provide vision and leadership to NPB in a manner that demonstrates a strong work ethic, inspires staff, encourages teamwork and provides successful outcomes.
• Manage direct reports, and provide support and direction to NPB’s management team.
• Assess current management team, staff, programming and business environment and make any adjustments needed to both maximize effectiveness in the short term, and to prepare the organization to capitalize on future long term opportunities.
• Understand and adopt industry best practices and ensure NPB staff is current on their implementation.
• Serve as liaison between the Board and NPB staff, and interact with Board as necessary and/or requested on an ad hoc basis.
• Improve personal development needs through training that builds skills.


Education: A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent required, graduate degree a plus
.
Relevant Experience:  Fifteen plus years of leadership experience, preferably with an Ag-related organization.

This position requires approximately 30-40 percent travel nationally and internationally and requires a good driving record.
