Tyson Anytizers Perk Up Pork Riblets

Packed with flavor and added convenience, pre-cooked, glazed “Anytizer” pork riblets from Tyson are dishing up a new option for time-crunched consumers.

“This is another groundbreaking example of a value-added pork product in the fresh meat case that can help drive pork sales and increase profit margins,” says Jarrod Sutton, director of retail marketing for the National Pork Board, who notes that Anytizers make great party appetizers and finger food.

Tyson’s Anytizers are made from pork spareribs that are cut into riblets. More than 1,600 Safeway supermarkets across the nation are carrying product, which has been selling well.

In addition, the 18-ounce pork Anytizers packages feature Tyson’s “Support Your School” promotion. Consumers can cut off the label from any Tyson Anytizer package and submit the label at their local school. The school will receive 35 cents back from Tyson for every label received.

“The Pork Checkoff is proud to be associated with this program, which allows schools to spend the money in any way they choose, with no strings attached,” Sutton says.

Magazine insert showcases Anytizers
To help drive demand for the new Tyson pork Anytizers, the Pork Checkoff is working on a new promotion with Safeway stores, which operates supermarkets in California, Alaska, Philadelphia, the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Portland and Seattle. Subscribers in these markets who receive Family Circle, Woman’s Day, Better Homes & Gardens, Ladies Home Journal or Good Housekeeping will receive a four-page, glossy recipe booklet inserted in their magazine in late 2008, complete with Anytizers publicity.

“This will offer huge exposure,” Sutton says. “We are also in discussions to make the Anytizers a lead item in the Super Bowl-themed issue of the January 2009 magazine insert.”
