#PorkLUV Sweeps the Nation

bacon rosesRoses are red, violets are blue but bacon was the key to the Pork Checkoff’s popular #PorkLUV online campaign and contest, which revealed the state that has the most love for pork.

Around Valentine’s Day, the Checkoff created a humorous video called “A Rose for Your Bros” that features how men could put a spin on the typically romantic holiday and celebrate each other with bacon roses for just being an awesome guy. The video has received more than 100,000 views on YouTube and Facebook, and is complemented by a step-by-step video demonstrating how to make the perfect bacon rose.

To really bring bacon roses and #PorkLUV to life, the Checkoff also delivered bacon roses to influencers in New York City, who helped spread the word through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

“Excellent job by National Pork Board selling the benefit of bacon roses,” said Darren Rovell, ESPN’s sports analyst/food and beer guru.

Prize Benefits Food BanksPork states
The culmination of #PorkLUV included an online competition to find out which state has the most love for pork. Americans were invited to share their #PorkLUV through an application on the Pork Be inspired® Facebook page and website for a chance to win a fresh pork meal donation to food banks in their state.

Participants declared their love of pork by selecting their favorite cut of pork. They could also make declarations on Twitter by tagging their tweets with #PorkLUV.

The winning share-a-thon state was Florida, with more than 2,400 #PorkLUV shares. The prize of 30,000 fresh pork meals are being distributed among five food banks in the state. North Carolina and New York placed second and third, respectively. Results show that America’s favorite pork cut is the pork tenderloin, followed by spareribs.

While the online celebration has ended, America continues to share its #PorkLUV. The program has garnered more than 117.7 million impressions, which is keeping pork top of mind in many households. The Pork Checkoff looks forward to staying connected with these consumers throughout the year, providing pork education, cooking tips and delicious recipes.
