Take Steps to a Become a Certified Swine Manager

Ready to take the next steps up the career ladder? Whether you’re a swine operation manager, department head, an employee seeking a promotion or a student interested in a career in the swine industry, the Pork Checkoff’s Certified Swine Manager (CSM) program can help jump-start the process.

The unique CSM program recognizes knowledgeable, skilled employees who demonstrate the pork industry’s We CareSM ethical principles. Certification is offered at a manager level and divided into two categories, including becoming a CSM in reproduction and a CSM in wean-to-finish.

“The Certified Swine Manager program is a great resource to help increase your knowledge and reflect your dedication to continuous improvement and leadership in the industry,” said Jim Lummus, director of producer learning and development for the Pork Checkoff. “Continued professional development also can open opportunities for career advancement.”

The CSM program offers benefits including:
• Opportunities for promotion into leadership management positions
• Certification to prove you possess specific knowledge, skills and competence to effectively perform essential job duties in swine management production
• A demonstrated commitment to the pork industry’s We Care ethical principles and continuous improvement

Individuals must pass two assessments, including an exam and an on-the-job skills assessment, to verify knowledge, skills and competence in swine production.
