Pork Checkoff Offers We Care Open House Kits for Producers

                           Pork Checkoff Offers We CareSM Open House Kits for Producers

Know of someone looking to host an open house for his or her new hog facility? The We CareSM Open House Kits are designed to provide producers with the promotional tools necessary to gain media and community attention on the opening or redesign of their barns.

"We have sponsored several open houses for new hog barns in Illinois and found them to be a very positive experience," said Tim Maiers, director of public relations for the Illinois Pork Producers Association. "They are an excellent opportunity to show the public what goes on behind the walls of the barn and to share the story of the farm family involved in the project. The We Care Open House Kit provides producers with the tools and resources necessary to assist them in planning and implementing a successful event."

Compiled through a user-friendly CD, the kit includes newspaper advertisements, a sample agenda, sample press release and other tools to promote the open house. Each document highlights the We Care initiative, showing the public that pork producers are committed to doing the right thing.

By promoting open house events for hog barns, producers can demonstrate their commitment to their communities while displaying the economic impact and value of the facility.

We Care is a joint effort of the Pork Checkoff, through the National Pork Board and the National Pork Producers Council, to help demonstrate that producers constantly strive to maintain and exceed the six established ethical principles. The National Pork Board has responsibility for Checkoff-funded research, promotion and consumer information projects and for communicating with pork producers and the public. Through a legislative national Pork Checkoff, pork producers invest $0.40 for each $100 value of hogs sold. Importers of pork products contribute a like amount, based on a formula. The Pork Checkoff funds national and state programs in advertising, consumer information, retail and foodservice marketing, export market promotion, production improvement, technology, swine health, pork safety and environmental management.
